When trying to take rut photos, it is easier to approach a bull than an cow elk. If I am walking toward a herd and I lock eyes on a cow, I will need to start over. Bulls have other bulls on their mind not necessarily their own safety. Cows see everything! A good call can frequently get a bull to approach or break out of cover!
